Meetup | Synergy between Art, Design, Tech and Physics!

I have always been wowed by Kitty’s super cool projects, which have been featured by many media, such as Hackster.io, Women of Wearables Blog, CODAME Art + Tech Festival, HDDG 31 Supplyframe San Francisco, Style Engineers Worldwide, Make: magazine, Silicon Valley Insight, and Synchronized Chaos etc.

And I have been wondering how Kitty manages to master the knowledge and skills in so many different areas, including scientific research, engineering, wearables, graphic novels, music, painting, and fashion design! Is she a superwoman?!

Kitty describes herself as a renaissance woman in the 21st century! She has always been wondering “wouldn’t it be nice if the world had… wouldn’t people be happier?” Believing that being an engineer and artist may help, Kitty lives her life out as a prolific maker/ engineer/ artist/ designer who creates creative works that express her thoughts and inspire others!

Let’s have a look at Kitty’s works!

 Scientific Research

Helena - a wearable piece designed by Kitty

Helena is a dress designed by Kitty, that uses Intel Curie accelerometer on TinyTILE and its small form factor to control colors of the optical fibers with arm movements.

Intel Curie Pattern Matching Dress

A dress with Curie's pattern matching engine on Arduino101 to control the embedded LEDs, which makes constellations show up on the dress.

Solar-Powered Tech Fashion

This outfit has a solar panel on the shoulder which can charge a 5V device, like a phone, a speaker, a portable charger, etc. through USB.

Kitty & her projects have been featured on Make: Magazine

Graphic Novels

Kitty has also started her graphic novel series, where she expresses her meaning of life through her own drawings and narratives of the story.

Would like to know what story she is telling in her novel? Have a sneak peak of her graphic novel!

Are your intrigued by this small excerpt? Would love to follow the story? You can read the latest updates on Kitty’s website: www.artbyphysicistkittyyeung.com.

After seeing all these amazing creations, I bet you must be as eager as me to meet the maker behind these projects! Hugh news! We’ve invited Kitty to come to x.factory & share with us her story, and her awesome projects!

Welcome to join us! 19:30 on July 31st at x.factory!

 Kitty Yeung

Kitty Yeung is a physicist, maker, fashion designer, artist and musician based in Silicon Valley, California. She works as a senior program manager + creative technologist at the Garage, Microsoft.

DIY A Wireless Charger Into A Book How to make your own DIY book charger First, you should buy a small wireless charger. Look for one that is  small, slim, and doesn’t raise the temperature too much  while loading. Obviously, if the temperature goes too hot, it will burn the book. 2. Next, find an old book you are willing to cut up. Make sure the cover not too thick because the thicker the cover is, the weaker the signal will be. 3. Then, you should use a pencil to mark the shape and position of the charger on the page. 4. Next, use a sharp knife to cut a hole in the book pages where the charger will go. remove the paper 5. After that, you should also cut a hole for where the cable exits the book. 6. Then, hide the wireless charger inside the book and use tape to stick it. 7. Please note that, if you are using the same wireless charger I am using, you should get a QC 3.0 adapter or it won’t charge well. 8. This small wireless charger is too small to locate, especially when it is hidden under the book, so, you should find some thing to help to locate it. 9. If your phone do not have wireless charging feature, you should buy a receiver. After you finish, you will see the art just like here. Finally, It works. you can search on amazon :   Soopus-X wireless charger 15W   for this item i am using. video:
